FIFA 16 Game Play Features Impressions
As with my NHL 16 Impressions I am similarly excited for FIFA and to see the implementation of defensive controls and to see the physics engine in action. To be honest I am excited for all of the EA SPORTS titles this year and think the current generation of systems may have revitalized sports games and given the vast majority of gamers features and gameplay additions that we have been longing for.
FIFA has always been EA SPORTS most consistent game in their collection and I do not expect anything different this time around, and when you consistently provide a solid to great game year in and year out it is hard to vastly improve upon the game from year to year. But when a team can provide small upgrades that truly enhance the feel of the game, that is the mark of a good game.
The new defensive mechanics and controls sound very intriguing as defense is an important, although possibly underrated aspect of any sport, proper defensive assignments, interactions and schemes will hopefully provide realistic offensive assignments, interactions and schemes by result. And as I have mentioned before I am a huge simulation guy and am extremely excited with what EA SPORTS is doing to add to the realism and atmosphere of their sports.
I long for the day when sports video games can truly blur the line between virtuality and reality and I think we are getting closer to that day. Visually, non gamers already can barely tell the difference between video games and real live games on television, once animations and physics reach the level we hope they are capable of, it will be nearly impossible to tell the difference on first glance. I think FIFA’s new midfield control is a step in that direction enhancing AI to play the ball and attack like a true midfielder or defender would will cause gamers to rethink all types of strategy. The live game trainer will also enhance all gamers knowledge of the sport which will also likely result in a more sim style of play without taking the fun away from the game.
New ankle and foot placement have been implemented on shots to give the feel of different timing and kicks so you can truly understand why you missed that shot you feel you timed and aimed perfectly for the top corner of the net.
As I have said before, I am truly excited for this years iterations of titles EA SPORTS is producing, add in the brand new women’s national team players to this years version and this could be a very successful year for Electronic Arts.
