Call of Duty: Black Ops III Beta Review

This past weekend, Activision and Treyarch let PS4 players finally try out the next installment in the yearly Call of Duty Franchise; Black Ops III, or as I call it, Call of Destiny: Titanfall III. With that being said, BO3 is extremely fun but the influence from these other games is extremely obvious. This year, when you start up you pick from 5 classes called “Specialists” each with a special move or attack.

I chose to play with “Ruin” which is the assault class (or Titan a la Destiny), which comes with your choice of 2 special moves; “Overdrive” which doubles your movement speed briefly, or “Gravity Spikes” which is a jump and ground pound move. The only difference from the ground pound in Destiny is your armor while doing it… which is non existent. So no more running up on 5 people and activating your special move.

There are some bulls**t specials this year as well, such as one Specialist being able to create multiple clones of himself with no clues to show which is the true player and which is AI.

The weapons are very nice this year, with the exception of the exploding arrows and lightning gun. They take away from the feel of CoD. The wall-running (a la Titanfall) is seamless and extremely well executed, as you can tell from the shameless plug below

All in All, Black Ops III is a definite purchase for me this year, they’ve taken ideas from other games and improved them in a way only they can. I look forward to playing the final product this November and we will be bringing back the WGL Call of Duty league so stay tuned for more info
