Pittsburgh Penguins Center Sidney Crosby (1 goal, 2 assists, fastest active player to 1,000 career points)

Even in his 12th NHL season, Sidney Crosby is still arguably the greatest player on the planet. We could spend all day talking about his many accolades: two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Penguins, two-time Hart trophy winner, two-time Olympic gold medalist with Canada just to name a few. Crosby added to that list last night, becoming the fastest active player to record 1,000 career points. He did so with an assist in the first period. With that, Crosby became the 86th player in NHL history to join the 1,000-point club, and he became the third player to do so exclusively with the Penguins.

That would not be all for Crosby last night. He picked up another assist in the third period and eventually scored the game winning goal in overtime to seal a 4-3 win over the Jets. It was quite the night for Crosby, achieving a significant milestone and delivering the winner in front of a sold-out home crowd. It was another important win for the Penguins as we get into the final third of the season. They currently have the second-best record in the Eastern Conference and trail the Capitals by five points. Much of the Penguins’ firepower comes from Crosby, who continues to set the league ablaze this season. He leads the NHL with 30 goals and is tied for second with 61 points. If Crosby can continue this level of play, more hardware could be on the horizon for he and the Penguins.
