3 & Out Update: Division Summaries + Playoff Predictions (Through Week 11)

At the conclusion of Week 11 of Season 2 in 3&Out, a lot has changed since this point of Season 1. A lot has also stayed the same. Let’s run down division by division to update the current standings and happenings in the divisions. Starting with the always entertaining NFC East.

NFC East

  1. Redskins (Matt) – 6-4
  2. Giants (Schwick) – 6-4
  3. Cowboys (BG) – 6-4
  4. Eagles (Paul) – 0-10

The NFC East is always entertaining whether it’s for the mediocre football or drama with each team and that has not changed this season. The Redskins and Giants are currently tied for 1st in the division and have already played each other twice and split those games. Their remaining schedules are about the same as far as “strength of schedule” goes, but the Giants probably have the edge as their next two games are both against winless opponents. The Redskins still have to play the Cowboys twice that are right behind them at 5-5 and the 8-2 Browns their next 3 games. The Cowboys are still in the running for the division title but have little room for error. The Eagles are already looking at the mock drafts and have their fishing gear and golf clubs ready for offseason.

NFC South

  1. Saints (ATM) – 10-0
  2. Panthers (XFactor) – 8-2
  3. Buccaneers (Tim) – 6-4
  4. Falcons (Sid) – 5-5

The NFC South has been the most competitive division in the league from top to bottom. Starting at the top with the only undefeated team in the league the Saints. The Saints finished 4-12 last season but used the offseason to improve and now are on top of the division and the league. The Panthers finished 2nd in the division last season and are looking to climb to finish 1st this season. And with 2 games vs the Saints still on the schedule, the Panthers control their own destiny to win the division if they can go on a run. The Buccaneers finished 3rd in the division last season and are sitting there again currently. The Bucs have a tough schedule down the stretch but are looking to pull out some wins to get a wildcard spot. The defending NFC South Champion Falcons are pretty much out the running to defend their division title but if they can weather the storm and finish the season strong they can still sneak into the playoffs as a Wildcard

NFC North

  1. Vikings (Chef) – 8-2
  2. Packers (Joker) – 6-4
  3. Lions (Trap) – 4-6
  4. Bears (Duce) – 0-10

After finishing last season 8-8, the Vikings have already matched that win total through 10 games this season. The Vikings have pretty much locked up the division at this point by sweeping the defending NFC North champs Packers. The Packers may not win the division this season but at 6-4 are in good position to get in the playoffs. The Lions snuck in the playoffs last season on the last day of the season and went on to defeat the division rival Packers in Lambeau in the playoffs. But don’t expect a repeat performance this year as they have struggled on both sides all season. The Bears just can’t get right and although they’ve been competitive, just can’t finish games. They’ll look to improve the remaining holes on the roster this offseason which has already started in their minds

NFC West

  1. 49ers (VIP) – 6-4
  2. Rams (Charles) – 4-6
  3. Seahawks (PJ) – 3-7
  4. Cardinals (Bruce) – 3-7

Little bit of a shocker that the division of the defending NFC Champion Cardinals has been the worst division in the league to this point. And those Cardinals are at the bottom which comes as a surprise after reaching the Super Bowl. The 49ers who also made the playoffs last season currently lead the division as the only team over .500. The Rams and Seahawks have both been competitive but have struggled to finish games.

AFC East

  1. Bills (Wayne) – 7-3
  2. Jets (Justin) – 5-5
  3. Patriots (Dallas Keyz) – 5-5
  4. Dolphins (Wil) – 3-7

The Bills are looking to repeat as AFC East Champs and are on the verge of doing so. The Jets and Patriots have both gotten better but are still slightly behind the division leading Bills. The Dolphins have also improved and despite their record, won’t be an easy game for anyone who plays them.

AFC South

  1. Texans (Dot) – 8-2
  2. Titans (Isiah) – 6-4
  3. Colts (Nap) – 4-6
  4. Jaguars (Corey) 4-6

After the collapse last season losing their last 3 games to miss the playoffs, the Texans were anxious to get this season started and have been playing well so far. At 8-2 they currently lead the division and are looking to right their wrongs of last season. The Titans who reached the AFC Championship and were a few plays away from reaching the Super Bowl are right in the Wildcard race but hoping for another Texans collapse to repeat as division champ. The Colts and Jaguars are both good teams but being in a tough division where everyone seems to beat up on each other has seemed to take a toll on them. But they are both still in the hunt but need to win out.

AFC North

  1. Browns (Brannin) – 8-2
  2. Ravens (Monday) – 5-5
  3. Steelers (Barry) – 3-7
  4. Bengals (Pattric) – 2-8

The AFC North produced 2 playoff teams last season with the Browns and Ravens and are looking to repeat that this season. The Browns are currently 1st in the division and looking to repeat as division champ, and the Ravens are at .500 and looking to reach the Wildcard again. The Steelers and Bengals have both struggled to find their identity and are looking to play spoiler and improve their teams through FA and the draft.

AFC West

  1. Broncos (BH) – 7-3
  2. Raiders (Tone) – 6-4
  3. Chargers (Jela) – 4-6
  4. Chiefs (Will) – 3-7

The AFC West has been interesting this season. The defending Super Bowl Champion Raiders lost their starting QB for some weeks but have stayed afloat and are right behind the division leading Broncos. The AFC West also produced 2 playoff teams last season and may do the same this season if the Broncos and Raiders both keep winning. The Chargers have a young team and have been playing well this season despite the 4-6 record. Don’t be surprised if they finish with a winning record and are in the playoff race late. The Chiefs have made some good moves and the defense is much improved. They may be a QB away from really competing in the division.
