Bottom of the 9th User Interview: Official_Mole

We’re back again with our weekly user interview from our MLB The Show league. This week we’ve got arguably the best player in the league and good from over from EA Sports Mole.

Josh: Hey man, so you probably know how this works by now, but if you could start with your PSN, team in the league & top 3 favorite games if possible.

Mole: My PSN is Official_Mole and I am the owner of the Boston Red Sox. My top 3 favorite games are Madden NFL, FIFA, and MLB The Show

J: Some solid games there, how long have you been playing them.

M: I’ve been playing Madden since ’95, FIFA since ’09, and I played MLB The Show 06 and 07 on PS2, then picked it back up in 2014 after getting a PS4.

J: What do you think about the development of those games? Can do so many things now with the PS4 & XBOX One being so powerful.

M: Coming from experience working at EA, I believe we have seen great progress within the first 2 years of the new consoles. I feel that with all the power PS4 and XONE can bring, these games are going to continue to look better than ever and innovate gameplay in ways we never thought would be possible.

J: That’s what it seems like from my perspective. I’m willing to be patient because its obvious steady progress is being made. What exactly do you do for EA?

M: Definitely and with sports game being yearly titles, were not going to get everything we want in one year. It will take time. My job is consists of 3 things. Testing Madden Ultimate Team Content, Reporting issues that are found by consumers to the necessary teams for awareness and potentially fix, and of course, playing and testing Madden Gameplay.

J: Do you tend to play differently when you’re testing as opposed to just playing? is it hard to get out of that testing mode?

M: Some days I will attack certain areas of the gameplay and other days I will just play and go into replay to see if I find anything wrong. I guess you can say I’m always testing, even while playing at home. I’m blessed to have the opportunity to report issues straight to the developers, no matter when I find them

J: Yeah true I guess when you can always report when you see something wrong you may as well keep an eye out. Although I know it could get frustrating also

M: As long as I do my job, I’m happy.

J: How are you enjoying MLB The Show from when you played it on PS2?

M: Well back on PS2 I never played online so I would play offline franchise with the Twins and I loved it. Nowadays I’m more of an online guy, and because the last few years online was disappointing I didn’t play as much. MLB The Show 15 is the first year in the The Show’s 10 year history that Online is working consistently, so this is by far my favorite year playing the game.

J: Yeah I’m so surprised at how many people truly are online only gamers.

M: All depends of the game. With The Show, most gamers play offline franchise or Road to the Show. Then you have a game like Call of Duty where aside from the campaign, everything is Online.

J: Yeah but some people with Madden or 2K or whatever play strictly online as well. I’ve always been an offline franchise type of guy. I’m not even the biggest RTTS or MyPlayer dude honestly.

M: Everyone has their own preferences in the gaming world. I love interacting with people and sharing experiences when I play, so Online will always come first for me.

J: Your team is doing pretty well. I thought I would be able to keep up but seems like I’m not gonna make the playoffs. Who has been the biggest surprise on your team so far?

M: Yea man team is playing great. Have a league leading 1.25 ERA and Batting in the top 5. Just need to finish out the season strong to get home field in the playoffs. Mookie Betts by far. Batting .336 with 24 Runs and 22 Steals. Great lead off hitter.

J: Is there anybody on your team where if they’re playing well you’re like “there’s no way i can lose”?

M: Yoan Moncada. He’s plays a crucial position at SS, and being a switch hitter he is a guy I can rely on in clutch moments. Not mention at 19, he’s already an 83 OVR with A potential. Great for the team’s future.

J: Yeah i didn’t realize you were playing him at short haha thats crazy. is Bogaerts just sitting there?

M: He is my new DH.

J: You need to send him to Minnesota.

M: Hey I’d be glad to send David Ortiz packing.

J: Sounds like he’d be your pick for most disappointing player.

M: 100% yes. Can’t even remember his stats but he has literally 0 speed and was never able to get hits when I needed it the most.

J: Yeah old players decline pretty quickly on The Show.

M: Yes they do. He went from 86 OVR to 73 OVR over the course of the season.

J: That’s crazy.

M: Not as crazy as you going from 15-1 to 17-13. What happened?

J: Honestly haven’t been able to get many games in. A lot of sim losses.

M: Sucks when your season falls apart and it wasn’t your fault. I’ve been fortunate to have played all of my games against other users.

J: Yeah, I’m not trippin though. Running a fair league is more important to me than winning, and if we’re not able to finish a game or schedule sim is the fairest way to do it. If I lose, I lose. Plus once my players develop I’ll have the AL on lock.

M: Yea the Twins have great prospects. Should have a bright future

J: Yeah i was glad they fell to me honestly, I’m excited for the draft.

M: That will be a lot of fun. I look forward to that.

J: I’m excited for the playoffs honestly. I think the teams that make it will take it seriously and there will be some good competition. What is about a league that keeps you interested?

M: The league has been able to advance consistently and we’ve been able to keep majority of the teams with users. Also, being able to play my games on time and against users have made me more invested in my team and ultimately the league.

J: Yeah all those things definitely help make a good league. How do you see the post season racing shaping up?

M: I personally feel with a game like MLB, there is a lot more parity. Even though the Rockies and Myself have solids leads in our leagues, nothing is guaranteed. The playoff races are definitely heating up and I’m excited to see who gets in. I won’t pick AL since that is my league, but I predict Rockies vs Reds in the NLCS.

J: Yeah i think thats a solid prediciton, seems like the Rockies are pretty good over there. And we know how good our very own @daskins_21 is. Do you wish you had made any moves before the deadline passed? how do you feel about your bullpen going into the playoffs?

M: I’m perfectly fine with my roster. I’ve pretty much been towards the top of the standings since the beginning and that prevents me from wanting to make moves. If it’s not broken, don’t try to fix it. I love my bullpen. I moved up Steven Wright from Triple-A to by my closer. He’s a knuckleballer.

J: That’s ridiculous. That pitch needs to be banned lmao.

M: It’s a great pitch. lol

J: Haha it is a good pitch, i think its cool the people that are able to be successful with it.

M: Definitely. Its a reliable pitch in key situations.

J: You mentioned that you like FIFA do you play NHL as well.

M: I haven’t played a lot since NHL 13, but I plan on getting NHL 16 since they are bringing back the EASHL.

J: Any question you would like to ask the next interviewee?

M: What Pitching, Hitting, and Fielding settings do you use in MLB The Show and Why? With all the different ways you can play the game I’m curious as to what settings other users are using to find success.

J: That’s a fantastic question. What settings do you use?

M: Hitting I use Zone. It allows me to be in full control of my hitting and produces the best contact hits. Pitching I use Meter pitching because I’ve always used it. Fielding I use Meter throwing because if your land the meter in the green, you’ll never throw errors.
